Montessori approach to learning is an excellent approach. This self-directed style of learning helps develop independence creating self-confidence while integrating emotions, experiences, and building relationships. It also allows children of different ages to interact. Children that have delayed development issues can benefit from Montessori approach to learning. There are pros and cons for a certain group of children depending on the status of the children involved in the program. Still, it gives children and parents a terrific opportunity to see what style of learning fits their child best.
Is it a pro for all? No, because of the areas of socioemotional development that my not take place in this type of learning environment. It can create too much independence, and the classroom settings to lose in the style of learning. It is the total opposite of what you find in the public school system. I believe in a public school or a Montessori school setting the socioemotional development process can fall short in both learning setting because it depends on the children within the environment. There is a need for the Montessori style of learning for a certain population of children in our society today. Every parent should have an opportunity to see if this way of learning is beneficial for their children.
