Leeds Metropolitan University Intervention Development for NYU Discussion
Question Description
I’m working on a writing question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.
Pretend that it has been learned that ~ 85% of students at NYU are not
meeting the recommended levels of physical activity. Develop an intervention
to increase physical activity (or to decrease physical inactivity) among
graduate students at NYU. Imagine that you have been awarded $2500 in
pilot funds that can be allocated any way you see fit (e.g., for paying
participants, purchasing equipment, implementing structural changes, etc.).
Provide a brief overview of the intervention, describe the technique or
techniques that will be used to promote change (i.e., the specific behavior
change strategies), and describe how you will determine whether the
intervention has been effective. Be sure to include the following details in your
description:
1. Participants: Who are they? Will the intervention be tested on all students?
Only volunteers? First years? Specific classes?
2. Design: Will this be a pre/post design? Or will there be a control group?
3. Budget: How will funds be allocated? Be sure to stick to the limited budget.
4. Description of the intervention. How long will it be? What will it consist of?
5. Description of the behavior change technique (e.g., reinforcement,
environmental engineering).
6. Measure(s): How will PA change be measured?
7. Limitations: Describe any obstacles or challenges to implementing the
intervention.
8. References: Provide empirical support for your proposed intervention
(e.g., completed trials or interventions, if these exist)
