We will be watching a lecture on Women’s roles in the Abolition Movement and the Suffrage Movement after the Civil War. This period between 1865-1877 is known as Reconstruction because the United States attempted to rewrite the definition of citizen and a citizen’s rights during this period. So far, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony have been two key heroines in our understanding of the women’s rights movement.

The Declaration of Sentiments (Links to an external site.) was written before the Civil War in 1848, and Stanton’s speech (Links to an external site.)was given in the 1890s. Both documents call for a new role and rights for women. Considering that the Civil War deeply impacted women’s roles in the United States and undermined the conditions that triggered Stanton’s frustration in the 1840s, please answer the following question:
