Writing Prompts (Choose one of the following prompts to base your essay on):

1. #1 In the Essay Just Walk on By Black Men and Public Spaces, Brent Stables discusses how his outward appearance can affect how people view him. Though he is referring to his race, he knows there are other things we can control, like the way we dress and speak that can affect how we are received just as much as our race. Write an essay discussing how we present ourselves can affect how people view us. How do people treat us when we dress nicely vs when we don’t. How do people treat us when we speak fluently vs with a heavy accent. Draw from your personal experiences and those of people you know.

   #2 Vanishing nightIn the essay, Vanishing Night, Verlyn Klinkeborg discusses the effects of light pollution. From this essay, we know that poor light design and too much light are responsible for many hardships in the natural world. However, humans rely on lighting up the light for many reasons. Why has light become so ubiquitous and necessary in the human world? What benefits do we get from having access to light at night? Write an essay discussing the reasons why humans use a lot of light and night and why going back to darkness is not an option.

   #3 Why We Crave Horror MoviesIn the essay, Why We Crave Horror, Stephen King attempts to explain why people like to watch horror movies. Write a similar essay explaining why people (or you) like a different genre of movies (i.e. Comedy, Romance, Super Hero, Bollywood Films) Why do people “Crave” superhero movies or why do people “crave” Romance movies? Use yourself and the people you know as example

   For this essay, respond to one of the writing prompts found at the end of your quiz in a 500-word essay.
