First, make sure that you have watched this video about Mary Shelley:
Mary Shelley-A Biography-A Video from the National Theatre at Home
Then create a discussion post by Wed., March 23rd at 11:59 p.m. in which you:
1) Find a quote that from the video that you found illuminating or interesting about Shelley’s life, her inspiration for Frankenstein,
and the novel’s reception. You can pick a quote that focuses on an
issue such as her life and family, the novel’s take on what makes a
human a human and the role of god/religion, or nature or the natural
world. You can also pick a quote about something else entirely.
Write
out the quote and give the name of the speaker being quoted and the
approximate time in the video where the quote occurred.
2) Find a quote from Frankenstein that connects to the quote from the film. Write out the quote.
3) Explain your reasoning for making the connection.
Your post doesn’t need to be more than a paragraph or so in length.
Then, by Sun., March 27 at 11:59 p.m., create a second post by selecting a “golden line” from one of your classmate’s posts.
A “golden line” is any sentence or phrase in what they say (not in what
Shelley said) that sticks out to you for any reason. It could stick
out to you because you find it insightful, because you agree or disagree
with it (be kind!), or because it reminds you of some part of your own
life or your own experience of reading the novel. Write down that “golden line” in your second post and tell us why you picked it.
assignment 2
Volume 2,
Chapter VIII is a crucial chapter in your readings for this week as we
hear from the Creature about his own sense of humanity and desire for
companionship. We also see him act angrily and perhaps unforgivably
when he commits an act of extreme violence. As there’s so much to dive
in to, write a reading log just on this chapter and upload it here by Sunday, March 27 at 11:59 p.m.
Here are a bunch of resources that might help you:
