I’m working on a english writing question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.

When we write texts in the 21st century, we often have to design the text. For example, a magazine article isn’t just words on a page–there are images and subheadings and other elements. Similarly, posters, webpages, blogs, etc, have to be designed. This assignment is meant to help you think through the design choices you will make in your final project.

Step 1:

Read Ch. 29 “Designing What You Write”. Answer the following questions based on the chapter.

1. What does it mean to think rhetorically about design? What kinds of things should you consider?
2. Pick one idea from the chapter that you think is relevant to your final project: Font, Headings, Colors, Visuals. Explain one piece of advice from that section that you will be able to use as you design your final project.
3. Under the section “Putting it All Together” there are a series of tips (in red). List these and explain each one in your own words (about a sentence or so each).

Step 2:

Pick 2 examples of the genre you have chosen to use for your final project. (For example, if you’ve chosen to write a letter, you’ll need to find two sample letters.) Be detailed in your analysis responses for this section.

• One of the examples should be one that you find attractive. Analyze what makes the design effective–consider it’s use of font, colors, visuals, etc.
• The other example should be the same genre, but one you find less inspiring/attractive. Analyze what you think doesn’t work or could be improved about that example.
