A great example of a very successful organization that is exploring how to grow their international reach is the National Football League (NFL). In 2019, the NFL produced around $16 billion in revenue which fell to $12 billion in 2020. Their long-term revenue goal for 2025 is $25 billion. It is not expected that the growth will continue to come from the domestic U.S. market as there are only so many cities that can support a franchise. So, over the past few years, the NFL has been scheduling games in the U.K., Mexico, and Germany as a test to see how the market will respond to their product.
Take a minute and think about the areas you would recommend to the NFL as areas for expansion. When considering the locations, think about the cultures involved, logistics as it relates to travel, demographics, labor relations, competition (i.e. other sports), legal situations, availability of talent, etc.
