Joliet Junior College Museum Project Presentation
Description
First:
Either visit a museum in Chicago or in the general vicinity (check for availability and opening hours; recommended museums include Oriental Institute, Field Museum, Art Institute, and Hellenic Museum) or you can do a virtual museum visit online (for suggestions, go to https://upgradedpoints.com/best-virtual-museum-tours/ or https://www.timeout.com/travel/virtual-museum-tours ). Focus only on artifacts or exhibits which relate to the time period covered in this course which is Global History (i.e., from pre-history and antiquity to about 1500).
Then:
Select a specific exhibit and/or group of artifacts for your report and gather information. Spend about an hour or two on the site, take some pictures/screenshots, or copy images, at least 10-15 (if possible).
Then:
In your PowerPoint presentation (8 – 10 slides), provide some general background information about the museum, discuss the artifacts/exhibit depicted with relevant and detailed information, and explain how and why they relate to what we cover in this course Global History. The text should be in bullet point format, no more than 5 or so per slide; illustrate each slide with one or more images. In your final slide, provide a summary review of the exhibit: How well does the museum exhibit present the subject matter? For example, does it provide enough background information? Is the information presented clearly and easy to understand? Does the layout and organization of the exhibit have educational value and stimulate the visitor’s interest? What about the visual quality of the artifacts on display? etc.
