Module 6 Overview

In the previous modules, the emphasis been on decision making. In this module, we will delve into analytics and acquire an understanding of its role in decision making. Business analytics (BA) involves studying historical raw data and transforming it into meaningful information to determine trends and patterns that will help analysts draw conclusions about the information.

Consider the following: Twitter analytics, Pinterest analytics, Facebook analytics, YouTube analytics, and Google Analytics can all easily measure online and social media activities, such as engagement and the number of likes, tweets, views, and so on. Businesses can also use analytics to enhance patient healthcare, a customer’s shopping experience, and customer service. The healthcare industry uses analytics to better manage patient care, including improving healthcare for patients with high blood pressure by analyzing the factors that contribute to it. Retail stores use analytics to target market new products to specific customers based on their past shopping preferences. Businesses that have customer service call centers use analytics to segment their customer calls and route calls to specific agents based on the reason for calling. These are just a few of the ways that businesses use analytics to innovate, seek new market opportunities, and optimize business processes.

Make sure that you document the value of business analytics to a business. This information will come in handy as you prepare your final project, which is due in Module Seven, and in which you will make your final technology recommendations using your decision matrix. In addition, you will address ethics, security, and privacy. You will also participate in a discussion on how you are using the decision matrix to make your decisions/recommendations, and you will explain how the matrix can be used in a different business scenario, providing an example, and discussing the most challenging part of applying the decision matrix to the project. You will also consider how your peers’ decision-making processes compare with your own and give recommendations for your peers’ challenges. You will also complete reading questions quiz in the WileyPLUS learning platform.

Now that you have completed your decision matrix, you will discuss your decision-making process and how you have used the matrix. For this discussion, you should NOT post your matrix but rather use it as a tool to evaluate your business. In your initial post, address the following:

• Explain how you could use the matrix in a different business/technology scenario. Give an example.
• What was the most challenging part of applying this matrix to the final project?
• What recommendations would you make to change your project, given some of the challenges you faced?

Respond to two of your peers’ initial posts and consider the following:

• How does your decision-making process compare to your peers’ process?
