Hudson County Community College Social Media Discussion

Hudson County Community College Social Media Discussion

Description

1- I believe it is unethical because it is invading the student’s privacy. They should not have the right to look through a student’s social media accounts unless it goes on within the school year and affects the school’s reputation. For example, if things are done within school grounds or school campuses and if they are wearing their school uniforms while committing a hateful or dishonorable act. However, if it does not involve the school in any manner, they should not have the right to check through students’ personal information. The main conflict in the situation is the student being attached to the school’s name. Whether they became known for sports, arts, or their intellect, their names are attached to the school. If they are seen doing indifferent acts, it may still damage the school’s reputation even without their names being physically attached to the situation. Overall, I believe that there are certain situations where they are able to look through social media, however with no reason, it is still unethical.

2-It is unethical in my opinion because it invades the privacy of the learner. They should not be allowed to search through a student’s social media accounts unless it occurs during the school year and has a negative impact on the school’s reputation. For example, if anything is done on school grounds or campuses, and they are wearing their school uniforms while doing something unpleasant or disrespectful. They should not have the power to look through students’ personal information if it does not affect the school in any way. The student’s attachment to the school’s name is the main source of contention in the scenario. Their names are associated with the school, whether they become famous for sports and arts.Even though their names are not directly tied to the incident, if they are observed conducting apathetic activities, it may harm the school’s reputation. Overall, I agree that they are allowed to search through social media in certain circumstances, but doing so without reason is still unethical.

3-Most colleges and employers check their employees or student social media accounts to get to know more about them. It would be unethical if they pry into their students or employees account without taking permission. I would say that before you post anything on social media make sure is something that is not offensive, and it should be appropriate. Checking their student or employee social media will allow employers and colleges to know their beliefs, values, personality, skills, and profile. It is like a background check. An employer or college would not want to employ anyone that posts contents that is racist or sexist. The disadvantage of getting to know their employers or students through social media is that most people are not their true self on social media. They are like another version of themselves trying to be in the groove. In other words, social media should not determine whether you employ or give admission to a person. because is just shows you a part of their skills which will be their communication or social skills. It does not show you the entire skills of the person. Also, not everyone engages in social media. Social media is a fun place- a place where you are free to express your opinion. It is not a place to write your resume or fill out a school application.
