W.E.B. Du Bois famously wrote that “The problem of the twentieth century is the problem of the color-line — the relation of the darker to the lighter races of men in Asia and Africa, in America and the islands of the sea.”  Using Steinberg and Bashi-Treitler (as well as any other class readings, films, etc) write an essay explaining why racial concerns and race politics remain so central to American society. Why is race still so central to the American nation and even to the so-called culture wars?
