Tips for Your Summary of Results:
First, consider:
?What research question was addressed in the study?
?What were the findings of the study?
?What did the authors of the article conclude?
Then, ask yourself the following:
?Did the articles answer the research question(s) they were addressing?
?What answers did they come up with?
?For each research question, did the findings converge with other studies
referenced in the article? That is, did the articles come to similar conclusions?

?Did the findings diverge? That is, were the results very different from other
studies referenced in the article? If so, why do you think this might be?
?Taken together, what do you conclude based on the studies?
Tips for Identifying Research Question
?As part of the assignment, you are to identify at least one IMPORTANT RESEARCH
QUESTION that extends the research you reviewed.
?What is left to learn about your topic? How would you go about gathering that
information?
?What were the limitations of your article? How could they be addressed in future
research?
?What research methods were not applied in the study you reviewed? How could they
be used to further explore this topic?
?Here are some commonly listed future directions:
?Collect new forms of data (qualitative interviews; reports from participants’
spouses, parents, or teachers; observational data)
?Conduct studies in different contexts (e.g., in different geographic regions within
a country, or in different countries) and in different populations
?Conduct studies that provide better information on causes (e.g., longitudinal
studies, experimental studies)
?Conduct epidemiological studies to get more representative samples
?Use more sophisticated statistical techniques, for example techniques that
provide more insight into changes in symptoms over time
