Harvard University Henry v Discussion

Harvard University Henry v Discussion

Question Description

I’m working on a writing question and need guidance to help me learn.

This week we examine a character who is both real and imaginary. Henry V was of course a real person who lived and died and whose actions and words had a great impact on many others. Henry V is also Shakespeare’s creation, however, a character whose motives, ways of speaking, and relationships with other characters are heightened and sensationalized in order to entertain an audience. Shakespeare’s main tool for crafting character is always crafting their speech. In your response this week answer the question: Who is Henry? by answering a related question: How does Henry speak? What do we learn about Henry from the way he speaks? Think about the kinds of words and figurative devices he uses. You might consider whether the way this powerful man speaks reminds you of the speeches of other powerful men now or in history. Be sure to use specific examples from the text of the play in your response!
