Option B: The Italian Renaissance is credited with transforming Europe. Many scholars of the time thought they were “rediscovering” ancient culture and knowledge and saving it from the “Dark Ages.” While we have seen there were dark periods, we have also seen some amazing things this semester. What exactly was the Italian Renaissance and in what ways was it new, in what ways was it created a myth about the “Dark Ages?” Why do you think Italian Renaissance scholars had such a negative view about the entire Medieval period?
