Grossmont College Sexual Fetish And Dating Preferences Discussion

Grossmont College Sexual Fetish And Dating Preferences Discussion

Description

the murder of Asian women in Georgia, you have heard about the notions of attraction,, racialized desire, sexual fetish, and dating preferences such as “yellow fever”.

Develop an essay that takes as position on the idea that if attraction is socially influenced, it might take on prejudicial elements of the society.  For example, a sociologist Dr. Robinson argues that “the neoliberal discourse of “personal preference” effaces the larger cultural assumptions that are influencing people’s interpersonal and psychic racial desires, furthering an erotic new racism in this digital age.” What do you think?

Be critical and analytical in your essay. Incorporate ideas from the book and lecture material. Incorporate an outside source (does not need to be scholarly). Provide a works cited list.

I have attached an article for reference and also provide a different article with the link below

POST

Hello I wanted to share some examples that I am just going to copy and paste from other students to help you Here it is down below:All around the world people are attracted to different types of people for various reasons. When talking about attraction and dating preferences people often claim they have certain type based off the persons culture or just how they look because of there race. This raises the question of why these sexual desires or dating types develops  with people and if it’s just natural or formed by society.   For example stereotypes  play a big role in our culture  as certain groups of people are thought to behave or act a certain way based off there race, gender or age. Stereotypes could play a role since popular culture like things shown on TV and movies could make these stereotypes more well known to the public. Due to this people begin to believe in them and if they don’t the stereotype meaning its bad behavior then they may not have desire to be with that type of person since there that race.Once one person thinks there true then this influences others to think the same and its a chain effect of people having these false claims on people based on race.   These false beliefs are put on us by society and especially the film industry showing how attraction could be socially influenced. In a article called “Fetishized, sexualized and marginalized, Asian women are uniquely vulnerable to violence” it talks about why Asian women in particularly are more sexualized and prone to violence than other people. One reason why they are seen this way dates back to a law made called the Chinese Exclusion Act which was enacted seemingly to restrict prostitution and forced labor. It was really for making it hard for Chinese women to come into the United States and if they did it would make it seem as if they are coming as prostitutes. This also then makes people think that they will work for cheap and are “disposable” workers a s mentioned in the article. This is because  they are thought of doing cheap dirty work so then employers don’t want or feel the need to give them a lot of money and limit there job opportunities. This showed with the pandemic as many lost there jobs and made up a lot of the unemployment rate since there restaurants or salons were shut down.  In the next article called “Op-ed : A Mediation on Racisms and Desire” it says ” Perhaps you have an Asian fetish. Perhaps your desires are influenced by the sexualized stereotypes of Asian women in films: a “Suzy Wong,” submissive and passive, wanting nothing more than to fulfill the fantasies of a white man or a fearsome “dragon lady.” This ties into the subject earlier of films and TV depicting cultures in a different way which then influences how the viewers think of them. This popular culture can be dangerous to people since it spreads these false messages that viewers then hold onto influencing who they are attracted to. Another aspect of this is the concept of class and how it changes sexual desire. In another article it mentions how class is like a hierarchy and there are certain races in each class and this can change attraction since one might feel there better than the other person due to there higher rank or there higher class. This clouds judgment because  if someone if less wealthy  than you does not make them any less attractive but it seems like it does for some people in society. Overall society does influence attraction and this terrible violence put on to Asian women that should not occur in any society.   Encyclopædia Britannica, inc. (n.d.). Social and cultural aspects.
