Grossmont College Meaning of Grace Reflection

Grossmont College Meaning of Grace Reflection

Question Description

I’m working on a english discussion question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.

Speaking of beginnings, let’s look at yours, and I don’t mean the beginning of you in English class. Let’s go way back, all the way to your birthday, literally. On that fateful day, your parents were faced with a pretty important decision: what should they name you? A name is not something to be taken lightly; I mean look at North West. Imagine explaining that in school and every day for the rest of your life. Perhaps there is some deep, existential rationale for the name, but I am not sure I believe it! I will say, however, that it is unique and unforgettable. In my birth year, Kim, or Kimberly, was a wildly popular name. How do I know? School. Every year, there would be multiple Kims in the room. I asked my mom, “Couldn’t you and dad have been a little imaginative? I mean, did you get to the hospital and not think about it until asked? Then in a moment of panic, did you say, ‘We’ll take whatever everyone else did’?” Whatever the case, I ended up as Kimberly for no particular reason, and it has been a super boring name–I had to get married to get something cool like “Wolfe.” Now, imagine if my first name had been “Gray” or “Timber” or “Were” ?.

What about you? Why are you named what you are?

For this journal, begin by writing your full name. Then in a paragraph explain why. Whom, if anyone, are you named after? What does your name mean? Give me the details of your name. If you have to, reach out to your mom or dad; they would love to hear from you!

Write your answer in a paragraph (150-250 words).
