What are some examples of continuing education in public health that are relevant to your areas of interest?

My area of interest in continuing education is on maternal-child health. I have been working in this field for over a decade. I am passionate about this field and always seek out more information and keep updated with current changes in the field. As a public health professional, I can seek continuing education from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the American public health Association (APHA). These two organization gives public health professionals the opportunity to stay current by providing online continuing education modules that can be completed with a certificate of completion at the end.

Why is continuing education in public health important for your career path?

Over the past few years, the Maternal Child Health field has made many relevant discoveries that affected the health outcomes of mother and their families. The continuing education that is available in this field provides relevant data to support programs, practices, and education for improving health outcomes for women and their children within communities that have the highest risk for poor health outcomes. Managing programs that support maternal; child health definitely requires continuing education. An organization such as March of Dimes  (Before or between pregnancies, 2022) offers the most updated information from professionals within the maternal-child health field.

In what ways does your faith inform or guide your professional practice? Describe at least one way to incorporate faith into your professional practice.

My faith along with the moral responsibilities are what drives me to do this work and continue within the field of public health. When I first started working with women and children, I was not sure how my faith would play a role, however, over the years, I have gained a better understanding of how the faith that I have in the work that I do encourages the communities that I work with to continue relying on their own faith. As a public health professional, I cannot work with communities without taking their faith into consideration and realizing that faith is the driving force for encouraging and promoting positive attitudes towards healthy outcomes. The involvement of faith-based organizations and leaders can support providing positive education, community engagement, increasing awareness/knowledge (Ghio, et al., 2021) to improve maternal and overall health outcomes.
