Each school year, teachers are asked to share with families the experiences that their children will be learning. It is important to be able to develop a cohesive summary and make families feel welcome in the learning environment. Additionally, family members need to be informed as to how best to support their learner at home. Literacy does not end with the classroom; however, many family members are unsure about how to support literacy at home.

*With the advent of a new school year, you have been tasked with writing a welcome brochure for families in your community to inform them about the educational experience at your school and to invite them to participate in the process.

Prepare a 350-600 word brochure for the families that includes the following:

• A description of an effective literacy development environment.
• At least three research-based strategies that your school will utilize to ensure a safe, technology-enriched, and culturally responsive literacy environment for all students.
• An example of how family engagement within a collaborative learning environment correlates with literacy development in early childhood and special education settings.
• Suggest at least three examples of ways for family members to effectively participate in their children’s literacy development.
