There are many challenges associated with helping the general public understand and accept the science of climate change as accurate and real. Many websites exist, both good and bad, which help to educate the public on this issue. An example of a “good” site that has plenty of information for the public is www.climate.gov. But, why do people still not “believe” that climate change is a real issue?
Based on your learning in this course and your own understanding of public opinion, write a 2-3 page essay on at least two significant hurdles to public education about global warming/climate change. Be as specific as you can and be certain to include concepts we have discussed in class. Include a discussion of your own knowledge of global warming and how it has evolved over your time at IUPUI and within this course. Then offer your constructive and realistic recommendation on how these obstacles may be overcome for (a) the residents of Indiana and (b) students at IUPUI.
