Continuing to advance in aspects of education and nursing role, I have learned a lot about statistics and the various statistical methods used in research. Statistics has a significant role in healthcare planning (“Ajph Global News,” 2018). This has truly been proven through studies on the various statistical elements and how they are applied in research to facilitate healthcare initiatives’ planning, implementation, and evaluation (“Ajph Global News,” 2018). Personal views of statistics have also been changed as I have learned various forms of phenomena can be manipulated and quantified to find the correlation. Likewise, I have learned how data can be applied; and what statistical methods are appropriate for each data type in research. I have also learned the importance of statistical software used in public health research data analysis. Therefore, all these have enabled me to put things into perspective and view statistics as an attainable and core aspect of public health research. The knowledge gained regarding statistics will be key – now and in the future, since public health often entails researching various phenomena related to population health (“Ajph Global News,” 2018). Thus, this will help guide various efforts and policies aimed at solving the population health problems (“Ajph Global News,” 2018). Currently working on an Acute Care Addiction Medicine unit this deep- dive into statistics has assisted in better understanding in overall understanding of tracking patient outcomes and interpreting evidence-based practice research studies. Soon, I will be transitioning into the role of Behavioral Health Clinical Nurse Educator. In this role not only will the focus be on supporting the clinical staff through caring for behavioral health and addiction patients, but also program development and expansion. Gaining an understanding of statistics will better guide in teaching these practices and will provide support of why these specific practices are in place and support new practices.
