CULTURAL DIVERSITY ASSIGNMENT (SMALL GROUP)

Introduction: The cultural diversity of a population increases the plurality of ideas and options for behavior to which people are exposed, adding to the texture and complexity of the society’s human resources and potential for well-being and achievement. The provision of nursing care to diverse patients is central to individualized use of the nursing process.

Assignment:The student(s) will select a nursing diagnosis/patient problem and describe assessment and interventions for ONE specific cultural (diversity) group with this diagnosis. Students will choose the patient problem and cultural group approved by the instructors no later than one week before the assignment is due. No change of topic will be allowed after that date.

Perform a search of the topic (use Library Database Search > CINAHL Complete > Nursing journals) and gather at least one (1) nursing journal article per group member. The nursing journal articles discuss the specific culture chosen and must be published within the last 5 years. Please use only Grossmont College Liberary

The paper is limited to 3 pages (excluding cover and reference page, no abstract page required)

Format for paper: typed, double spaced, Times New Roman font style, 12-point font, 1-inch margins, correct grammar, punctuation, spelling, and vocabulary. Use first-person personal pronouns.

Citations and references follow the most current APA format.

Introduction paragraph: describe the chosen cultural group and identify the patient problem related to this cultural group.

Body of the paper:

Provide a summary of the research findings regarding the chosen cultural group and the identified problem.

Describe general and cultural-specific nursing interventions for the identified problem.

Discuss how the interventions would be modified to fit the chosen cultural group.

Conclusion: describe how the information learned should affect nurse’s care of patients in California.


