Family Issue Group Presentation

Family Issue Group Presentation

Description

provide one thought-provoking discussion question to the class.

  • break the class into small groups to discuss the question.
  • bring the class together and have each group report out to the larger group.

Students working in assigned groups will identify a specific concept that affects families such as a family stressor or a specific crisis. For example: death, divorce, illness, substance abuse, intimate partner violence (e.g., domestic violence), community violence, economic challenges (e.g., poverty), military deployment, natural disaster, immigration, sexual orientation, sexual abuse, or human trafficking and/or commercial sexual abuse of children (CSEC), etc. However, your family issue must be discussed in context with the assigned week’s population. For example, if you signed up for group #2, you will discuss your family issue in relation to African American children, youth, or families.

Each group will develop and provide a PowerPoint presentation that identifies the issue and provides research and information on evidenced-based, culturally competent interventions and resources specific to that issue.
