In Week 1, you were introduced to the essential criteria for a learning theory, including the five “definitive questions” Ertmer and Newby (1993) believe could be answered by a thorough understanding of learning theories. To better illustrate the nuances of the different learning theories you will explore in this course, you will complete a Learning Theory Matrix.
Beginning this week with cognitive and behaviorist learning theories, identify how each theory answers each of the questions in the table. Note that one additional question is included beyond Ertmer and Newby’s original five, which relates to the field of instructional design.
