DU Anthropology And Cultural Heritage Asians Americans Question

DU Anthropology And Cultural Heritage Asians Americans Question

Description

I am a Chicago Native and also and Vietnamese, but never get the chance to visit Argyle a Vietnamese dominant area. Must have a strong understanding of Vietnamese culture and know about Chicago as a whole. Incorperate past and present day argyle and also include the how it would be to visist this area like you were there

Choose and analyze one of the many ETHNIC NEIGHOBRHOODS of Chicago. You have to describe the ethnic neighborhood/community connecting it to the main topics we have been discussing in this course  (urbanism as a way of life, globalization, migrations, multiculturalism, ethnicity, diversity, minorities, citizenship, segregation, structural racism, gentrification and so on).

You will write a 6-8 pages essay in which you will highlight the following points:

1) Make a description of the neighborhood you have chosen, indicating the ethnic relevant elements (its position within the city, the historic background, population characteristics, language(s), religion(s), employment rate and so on).

2) Please specify your work methodology (reading of chapters/papers/newspapers/websites to prepare the fieldwork, interviews, visits to specific places – such as stores, shrines, community centers – and so on).

3) Describe the most important ethnic features (culture, language, music, art, street art, restaurants, associations…), trying to connect individual lives and local narratives to the theoretical elements we have been discussing in our meetings.

4) You can use a few images, graphs, tables, quotes and interviews to enrich your text.

In order to help you with your final paper, I’d like to give you some additional recommendations:

A) Be sure you have a first page with: your name, student ID, the name of the course and a TITLE for your final paper (if you want, you can add a subheading). You can also create a kind of a “cover”, adding a picture to your first page.

B) You can use (actually, you should use) the many materials we have been reading – and watching – during the quarter (PDFs and videos are always available on D2L) to improve the quality of your paper. You can cite or quote the authors and you can also put them in the bibliography at the end of the paper.

C) When you focus on a topic you consider important, please try to discuss it profoundly: you can discuss the reasons of your choice, you can describe the subject, you can analyze different questions and issues related to the chosen topic, you can make a connection between the materials you read and your own experience and so on.

D) Cite and quote accurately from articles, papers, magazines, movies, documentaries you have found during your research.

IMPO: As usual, you can write me and you can meet with me (in person and/or via Zoom) if you need help, explanations, tips, and so on. Please, do it!
