Does Social Class Affect Development in Young Athletes Responses
Question Description
I’m working on a kinesiology discussion question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.
Response 1: Does social class affect development in young athletes?
In youth sports there are many environments that kids grow up in, some are born in wealthy families who have access to anything they need to help develop their kids to put them in the best position to succeed athletically and some are born in poor and unfortunate families who have to work harder to help fund their kids sports leagues or equipment making them overcome more adversity and in my opinion making it feel all the more worth it when they actually make it big. In conclusion I believe that social class definitely has an affect on development on young athletes making it more difficult or easier in terms of making it in their respective sports.
Response 2: Does the amount of money a child’s parents make impact the sports they can participate in?
A child’s parents financial status can affect the type of sports a child can play and even if they can play them at all. Sports are getting more and more expensive in this day and age and the amount of things that goes into the sports causes for the expenses to go up even more. Getting all the equipment and gear can be a lot for a low income parent to provide. Also, many times a low income household is going to have parents that are working multiple jobs in order to provide for their family, and this can cause for a child to not be able to play a sport at all due to not having transportation. “Lower-income kids’ family responsibilities, such as caring for siblings or earning money from a job, and transportation challenges to attend practices and games.”
