FAQ1: Is there any political innovation in today’s society? I’m trying to get a better meaning of the term.

A: We’re seeing lots of political innovation stemming from grassroots organizing (e.g. https://risingtidenorthamerica.org/). In terms of the pandemic though, governments restricting mobility and closing businesses is fairly short-term innovative, based on the circumstances, and really innovative. Whether sustained innovations, e.g. a ban in wild meat markets, can arise are yet to be seen.

How does current political innovation relate and/or conflict with another course topic of your choosing?

FAQ2: What would be an example of sovereignty?

A: A recent example of sovereignty in action is the Wet’suwet’en Nation defending their land (Links to an external site.) as their sovereign territory in BC, Canada.

FAQ3: Could I get a good example of Political ecology?

Political ecology is on one hand a sub-discipline of geography, political science, anthropology, and sociology which studies the political economies of environmental change (e.g. urban pollution, land degradation, park establishment, etc.).

And on the other hand, just like we can refer to the geography of a local region, hilly and gentrified Oakland, CA for instance, we can also refer to the political ecology of any place or situation: e.g. the political ecology of CA’s water crisis would involve local (over)consumption patterns, such as wasteful irrigated lawns and car washes; regional water distribution infrastructure, policies and water agencies, both state and federal along with water districts; and the overarching reality of global warming inducing erratic weather patterns and climatic shifts, along with the range of international policies and influences at play.
