Cuyamaca College Futuristic Tale Discussion

I’m working on a ethnic studies multi-part question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.

1. Create a four-panel comic focusing on a significant sequence of images, ideas, or events in Butler’s “Speech Sounds.” Write at least one chunky paragraph about your process of creating the comic in relation to the short story. Why did you choose to focus on what you did? What meanings in the story were you trying to highlight? How did the choices you made about what to represent in the comic connect to those meanings? Analyze specific details or short quotes from the story in relation to your comic, using examples to flesh out your discussion of what’s important in the story. Take a photo or a screen shot of the comic and upload it as an attachment or if you have a better way to make it visible than that on the Discussion thread, do that. 

Afrofuturism and “Speech Sounds”: If you were an historian from the future trying to understand what Afrofuturism was in the 1980s and 1990s, how would you explain it using one quote, detail, or scene from The Last Angel of History and one sentence, passage, detail, or scene from “Speech Sounds”? Write at least two chunky paragraphs in response to this prompt.
