Unit I focuses on the creation and the mission areas and core capabilities of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Begin this assignment by reviewing the core capabilities discussed in the required unit resources for this unit. Remember not to utilize first person writing.

Next, write an essay that analyzes two of the core capabilities along with the mission areas they fit into. In your essay, address the following prompts.

• Identify the two core capabilities you selected.
• Discuss which mission area the core capabilities are linked with and why they are linked.
• Explain each of the core capabilities and the role of each.
• Identify and explain which agencies would focus on these capabilities.

Your essay must be at least two pages in length, not counting the title and reference pages. Support your essay with your textbook and a minimum of one additional resource from the CSU Online Library. All sources used must be properly cited and referenced according to APA standards.

Preemption-The avowal that nations supporting terrorism were to be considered hostile regimes was significant in light of the U.S. National Security Strategy published by the administration the following September.
