Description
• Please provide your opinions if you agree or disagree with the following court cases. Also, if you are not sure that is also an option as well. Each explanation/opinion should be at least 3-4 sentences. Please label each case. You will have five small paragraphs total.
• Case Two: Abington v. Schempp that Bible reading in public schools also violated the First Amendment. The two decisions divided religious groups and the American people. Some welcomed the rulings, saying the government should have no say in personal religious matters. Others insisted the decisions were hostile to religion
• Case Three: Gideon v. Wainwright by adding that every accused lawbreaker had to be offered access to a lawyer before questioning, and all evidence obtained from a suspect who had not been informed of his or her right to a lawyer could not be used in court.
• Case Four: Tinker v. Des Moines School District (1969), the Court ruled that wearing black armbands in school to protest the Vietnam War was protected as “symbolic” speech. The decision also made it clear that students do not give up all of their rights to free speech while in school.
• Case Five: In Mapp v. Ohio (1961), the Court ruled that evidence obtained illegally violated the Fourth Amendment and had to be excluded from federal and state trials.
