Colorado State University Global Campus Quality in Project Management Discussion

Description

Read Example 1. Add additional information and ask a question. Your document should include about 100-150 words plus credible references.

Example 1:

Quality has no strict definition. According to Baker (2018), quality refers to a product or service’s degree of excellence. Another definition states each customer will decide what quality means (Kerzner, 2017). Quality seems to be decided based on a product’s or service’s ability to accomplish its objectives. For project managers, quality management should be started early and evaluated at set intervals during the project to catch errors early. A project manager will need to use statistical tools to evaluate quality and utilize tools from Lean Six Sigma to find root causes and make corrective action plans (Marco & Guido, 2019). If project managers can catch errors early they will save themselves many headaches down the road and the company will reap the benefits of cost savings.

In my current role, I was assigned a project where the problem statement involved delays in patient care due to long wait times to get the patient in for their office visit. I facilitated the team through using the Cause and Effect diagram to identify the root cause of the delayed office visit timing. The tool was effective in helping the team think outside their own area of focus. The tool lists major areas for the team to brainstorm possible issues. I do think it is an effective tool, but it does usually require further digging, utilizing the 5 Why’s tool, to get to the true root causes of issues identified on the Cause and Effect diagram.
