Example 1:
When deciding how to approach managing a project, there are two mainstream methodologies to choose from. These are the waterfall and agile methodologies. According to Kerzner (2017), the waterfall approach is more rigid while the agile approach is more informal. The waterfall methodology follows a very structured and documentation heavy approach. The agile method allows for more adaptability when projects have a lot of uncertainty involved.
Choosing to implement an agile project management methodology will lead to successful project outcomes. According to Project Management Institute (2017), the agile approach is recommended for projects that have high rates of change, complexity, and risk. The agile method has frequent check-ins that allow the team to catch and trouble shoot challenges quickly and reassess risk often. The agile method handles project complexity by breaking down larger tasks into smaller work units along with creating a horizontal supervision chain instead of a top-down chain of command (Muhammad, et. al., 2021). These efforts lead to quicker decisions and managing tasks more efficiently. The agile methodology is an excellent approach for any project manager wanting to complete a successful project.
