College of DuPage Finance Paper

College of DuPage Finance Paper

Description

Topic is:
 Jerome Powell just retired and President Biden has appointed you as the new Chair of
the Federal Reserve. Describe the following:
o The current economic conditions you see.
o The current monetary policy in place.
o What you see as your biggest challenges.
o What actions do you plan to take to further the objectives of the Fed as
described in its legislated mandate.
 What benefits will come from your tenure as Chair?
Your paper must:
1. Be 1,000-1,025 words (not including citation summary , name, title) and posted into Submissions
(Must be in Word format) by May 31. Late submissions are penalized (one letter grade for each
day late).
2. The best papers will be heavily weighted toward your opinion. The most important factor is
that you have a view and support it. Nobody has the absolute correct answer so no view is
incorrect (it is okay and encouraged to have a view different from the one you might think I
have).
3. Do your own work. Do not add significant quotations and/or citations. I am not requiring a
bibliography. Rather, I prefer a list of sources that you utilized; recent articles in business/finance
periodicals are a good area to focus. Each paper runs through TurnItIn technology so plagiarism
is easily detected. Suspected plagiarism will be reported via the appropriate channels at
DePaul.
4. Be grammatically correct and spell checked. Please utilize the DePaul Writing Center for help.
Typos and grammar errors make papers hard to read and usually receive a C or worse grade. I
highly recommend proofreading your paper aloud; this exercise catches typos, poor grammar,
nonsensical sentences.
5. You will see a rubric visible in D2L reflecting exactly how I score the assignment.
6. Be readable, interesting, based in fact, and have a well-formed and substantiated opinion.
7. Hint. The best submissions are those where the first draft is 1500 words long. Then, the writer
reads through and eliminates all of the “in my opinion”, I believe”, “I think” and other unnecessary
filler words and expressions. Then, one edits the paper into the tight range of words. The whole
idea of the tight range of 1,000-1,025 words is to make the writer pick the words more carefully.
See quotation below.

For each, write a 375-425 word essay about the following topic options:
1. Future of Bitcoin*. What is your view of the future progression of bitcoin? Will it
survive…will it thrive? Why? Describe any interesting challenges. While I prefer that
you do research and have an informed view, do not bother with citing other people’s
work…should be your own thinking and conclusions.
2. The Big Short. Read the book or watch the movie. What was
interesting/surprising/relevant? Relate the movie/book to our class.
In both cases, feel free to answer any or all of the questions but stay on the main topic in bold. Place
your submission into Submissions by the last day of class. Grading is binary…either acceptable or
unacceptable. A good college try that is original work is acceptable.
* Feel free to substitute the general concept of cryptocurrency for Bitcoin if you prefer.
