Central Texas College Two Factor ANOVA Project

Description

Writing an APA Style Results Section for a Two-Factor ANOVA
As explained in prior modules, through your Application Essays we are developing your ability to explain
the results of statistical tests and your skills for writing statistical results in APA style.
As previously stated, it is not enough to know how to compute a calculation if you have no idea what that
calculation means as it is applied to the research question.
I have selected a problem with correct answers provided in the back of the text so that you can check your
work and revise it if needed. This way you can focus on the explanation of the results in this assignment
and not on the computation itself.  Below I provide an outline of the information you must include in your
explanation in the order it should appear.
For problem 21 on page 475 in your text, write a Results section in APA style (e.g., double
spaced, labeled with the word ‘Results’ centered at the top of the page, 1-inch margins, etc.).
When writing your Results sections, you may find the following pages helpful: GWFW pages
454-455; Green & Salkind pages 148-149; APA style manual: pages 32-35, 41-67, and 181-191.
The APA style Results section should include
a. a brief statement describing the variables presented in the problem (i.e., explain the
research by specifically mentioning both variables and their levels),
b. a statement of the statistical test used,
c. the probability of a Type I error,
d. the conclusion for the interaction term of the ANOVA in words supported by the results
of the test in parentheses (i.e., the numbers formatted in APA style),
e. an explanation of the interaction term results in words that refers to each cell of the
ANOVA table ,
f. the sample size, mean and standard deviation for each cell of the ANOVA table,
g. the conclusion for the main effect of the treatment variable in words supported by the
results of the test in parentheses (i.e., the numbers formatted in APA style),
h. an explanation of the main effect of the treatment variable results in words that refers to
each marginal mean and standard deviation for variable A in the ANOVA table ,
i. the conclusion for the main effect of the gender variable in words supported by the results
of the test in parentheses (i.e., the numbers formatted in APA style),
j. an explanation of the main effect of the gender variable results in words that refers to
each marginal mean and standard deviation for variable B in the ANOVA table ,
k. a statement qualifying the interpretation of the main effects if the interaction term is
statistically significant.
