CCC How Efficient the Atom Economy Is Found Between Steps in Glycolysis Discussion
Description
Course level objectives covered in this module
- CO 1: Discuss the importance of chemistry in our society.
- CO 10: Identify, classify, organize, analyze and draw structures of organic molecules.
- CO 12: Predict the physical properties of organic chemicals based on their structures.
- CO 13: Analyze the influence of structure and physical properties of organic molecules on their biological properties.
Instructions
Step 1: Part of green chemistry focuses on atom economy, which is a measure of atoms found in the desired product from the given reactants. For example, if there were a total of eight atoms found in the reactant molecules, and the resultant desired product of that reaction contained seven of those atoms (one being lost as by-product), then this reaction would be classified as having good atom economy. In other words, there was little “waste” of atoms found in the product. Given this information, how efficient is the atom economy found between Steps 4 and 5 in glycolysis?
Step 2: Read other students’ posts and respond to at least two other students. Incorporate personal experience, if appropriate, to help support or debate other students’ posts. If differences of opinion occur, debate the issues and provide examples to support opinions.
