3. Posted under the search warrant project are 3 different documents. The first is titled Commonwealth of PA. This is the first part of a search warrant in which the investigator must specifically describe and list the items to be seized and places to be searched. The investigator also must list the possible violations. This is an actual search warrant application that was used while I worked as a police officer. The second is titled Search Warrant Probable Cause. This is the second portion that makes up the search warrant. This is where the investigator will fully and completely describe the criminal investigation and must establish probable cause to seize the items requested and search the places requested. The 3rd document is titled Affadavit PC Continuation. This is simply a form that gives the investigator more space to write if more probable cause explanation is needed.
4. You are not to turn in the above 3 documents. They are just listed to give you a guide and idea of the search warrant application and to assist you complete your search warrant.
5. You will complete your 1st word document which will essentially take the place of the 1st listed document ( Commonwealth of PA). You will list only the following on this document.
– Police Incident Number (make one up)
– Affiant Name: That is the investigator completing the form. (You)
– Identify all items to be searched for and seized. They must be fully described in as much detail as possible. (You can make up descriptions if not already included in the scenario)
– Specific description of premises and or persons to be searched. (follow same directions as items to be searched)
– List the name of the owner and occupants of premises (place) to be searched. (make-up names if not included in the scenario)
– List any violations that suspects are being investigated for. (you can obtain this information from online PA Crimes Code, just google PA crimes code)
6. You will complete a 2nd word document with your complete investigation according to the scenario. This will essentially take the place of the 2nd document ( Search Warrant Probable Cause). You must establish probable cause to seize any items or search any places. I give you alot of information in the scenario. If any necessary information is missing for you to establish probable cause you must make it up yourself. This must be in full paragraph form.
