Austin Community College Apartheid in South Africa History Discussion
Description
Because this is a Forms class, your story should operate in one of the forms that we studied. You may want to craft your story in two forms, and that’s okay too. As for the subject matter, you’re allowed to write whatever character-driven stories you’d like for workshop. What do I mean by this? Character should be your first concern, so if you’re writing a story that takes place in another world, the desire of the character should be something a reader can relate to. You are allowed to use an exercise as a jumping-off point for your story, but you should also feel free to write something entirely new.
Your stories and essays will be graded on whether you use the techniques we discussed in class—character desires, character obstacles, plot development, dialogue, white space/structure, setting, appropriate use of POV, and how well the fits into its intended form/s. Think about your character and their desire—this desire is at the heart of all stories, of all plots, and it will be important to pinpoint and develop as you start to shape your own original story.
