Comparative Article Critique

This assignment is due on the Saturday of Week 8.

Refer to Resource File for Comparative Article Critique on Moodle. The purpose of the article critique is to help students to become further acquainted with the social work literature and current themes, as well as providing a tool for developing a knowledge base beyond the text. I have select two articles for you (the articles are posted on Moodle). The two articles take opposing positions on an issue. Your assignment will be to read both articles and critically examine the arguments being made. After examining both articles, you will formulate a critique on the debated issue in a 3 page paper.

You will be graded on the following:

  • A critical look at the argument both authors are attempting to make. This IS NOT a summary of the two articles. You must concisely summarize the main points of both articles in no more than one page.
  • Your thoughts (not simply your opinion) about the issues based on your critical assessment of both arguments. This is NOT a personal reflection paper. This should be written as a scholarly paper. The majority of this assignment (2 pages) involves your INFORMED critique of the two arguments being made. Your ideas are informed when you:
    • Back up your ideas with research. You may need to use additional resources to make your point.
    • You find inherent flaws in the logic of the articles (assumptions, broad generalizations, exaggerations, etc.)
  • Organization/ Correct use of APA (7th ed.) including title page, page numbers, appropriate citations throughout the paper, and reference page.
