Special Education Teacher Interview
Description
Special Education Teacher Interview
For this assignment, you will interview a special education teacher who teaches in grades 1-6. You will ask a minimum 10 questions regarding working with parents of children with disabilities and summarize the interview in a 4-5 page (double space) paper. These are some questions you may consider asking:
1. How do educational laws impact a special education teacher’s role in working with families of children with disabilities?
2. How do you communicate with these families? What challenges do you have in communicating with families? What worked?
3. How do you engage with families in IEP development and implementation?
4. What places IEP teams, regular education teachers or special education teachers at-risk for potential legal problems when working with parents of students with disabilities?
5. What supports do you receive from your school’s administration in working with families?
6. What suggestions you have for an emerging special education teacher regarding working with parents of children with special needs?
You may use these questions but need to provide a complete list of 10 questions at the end of your paper.
Summarize your interview including a reflection of what you learned from this experience.
Please arrange your paper in the following order:
Introduction
Literature review (empirical peer reviewed literature)
Interview report
Conclusion (implications and recommendations)
Reminder: You should never interview students in schools for any of the papers in this course. You can ask teachers general questions if you would like more information about classroom processes or issues, but individual students should never be approached and interviewed for this course (that would require a lengthy IRB process). Also, please maintain confidentiality and anonymity of all involved.
