BC Steam Power Cycle Worksheet
Description
Problem Description:
o Design a steam power cycle that delivers 10 MW of net work.
o The highest temperature available is 600°C. This temperature can be considered as the highest temperature of the cycle.
o Environmental cooling temperature for heat rejection is 30°C. You can assume that the lowest temperature of the cycle is the same.
o Design using a regenerative-reheat Rankine cycle with one or more feed water heaters.
o Assume that the pumps and turbines are 95% efficient (isentropic efficiencies).
o List and justify all assumptions you make for the thermodynamic design. List all the assumptions about the thermal heat exchange devices included in the cycle.
Procedure:
o Select appropriate cycle layout and parameters. Find thermodynamic properties for states. Compute cycle performance.
o Iterate to improve cycle performance, as needed.
o Finalize the cycle and specify final parameters.
