1. You will write 12 Objective Talking Points (6 in favor, 6 opposed) and 12 Political Talking Points (6 in favor, 6 opposed).
2. You may not cut and paste statements from news sources; they must be in your own words (paraphrase) or you will lose points or receive a 0.
3. Data sources must only be used once (for example, Kaiser Health News, CNN, New York Times, etc., may be used for a data point but one time only).

Specific Requirements: Objective Talking Points, in favor of and opposed to– 12 points total

1.Write 6 objective talking points in favor of Medicare for All/Single Payer/Universal Healthcare. Each talking point must include at least one data source. Include your relevant, scholarly, real (not alternative) facts data source for each talking point.

• Write 6 political talking points opposing Medicare for All. Remember, political talking points need not necessarily be factually correct! Importantly, you must provide a rationale for your political talking points.

EXAMPLE (which you may not use):

Rationale: Under a Medicare for all system, all residents of the United States, for the first time, will have high quality, comprehensive health insurance. [This rationale is actually highly debatable. But it is an acceptable political rationale because it is true to some.]

EXAMPLE:

Political talking point: Medicare for All/Single Payer undermines one fundamental aspect of America’s values–freedom of choice.

Brief rationale: Medicare for All is a government takeover of health care that undermines the freedom of Americans to control their health and their health care. [Likewise, this rationale is highly debatable. But it is an acceptable political rationale and would be true to some people.]
