Description

Module 3 “When the Going Gets Tough” Review

Writing Workshop

Part 1

The Writing Workshop

A banner that reads workshops. In this course, you will participate in various Writing Workshop exercises. The purpose of each workshop is for you to prepare and build your peer review skills for the first draft of the Creative Expression

This first Writing Workshop is an entire class effort. We will practice together in a large workshop. You will learn how to give the kind of feedback necessary for the Creative Expression first draft review.

Workshop 1

Read/review the first draft of the short story “When the Going Get’s Tough” (Flash Fiction),and provide feedback to the writer in this workshop forum.

Consult the Workshop Reviewers Rubric (DOCX) to help you think about what to say in your feedback.

Identify grammatical errors; how do such errors impact the reader’s understanding?

Examine lack of character development, voice, and setting. Does the character experience internal conflict; does character and conflict not work together? Is the first draft good enough without changes? Do setting and conflict work for the writing; how do they/how do they not?

Compose two complete paragraphs of feedback and post in this forum.

Post your initial feedback response by the fifth day of the module week. After you have posted, return to the forum and read several of your classmates’ responses. Responding to your classmates is not a requirement in this workshop; however, feel free to make recommendations and ask questions to facilitate discussion.

Refer to the workshop rubric for grading details.

Part 3

Edit and Edit Again

Discussion

Discussion concept; discussion bubbles above people icon figures between two spread apart hands.According to Grammarly’s blog, “editing is the preparation of written material for publication. It’s a critical part of the writing process that shapes a rough draft into a polished final piece” (Grammarly, para 1, 2021).

Access your course text and review/complete Exercise 7.15 on page 208. Follow the exercise instructions and choose a paragraph to review and edit. The goal is to get it as polished as possible.

In your initial discussion, post your edited paragraph version and explain why you made the specific edits. Then, explain the most important thing you learned about editing from this exercise.

Post your initial discussion response by the fifth day of the module week. After you have posted, return to the discussion and read several of your classmates’ responses. Respond to at least two postings. In your response, discuss if the classmate caught the same and/or different errors as you did? Provide examples.
