NYU Lady Lazarus Essay

NYU Lady Lazarus Essay

NYU Lady Lazarus Essay

Description

(NOTE: For UNIT 3 you will have to come up with a topic and text of your own choice to write an essay on, a topic that you want to research on. It should be within the genres we’ve done: like personal essay, poetry, short fiction, food essay, and for visual analysis: music video, photographs, films/ short film/video art etc. For example you can rhetorically analyze a music video of your choice, or a personal essay you read last week on the internet, or a poem or a book of poems you love, or a personal essay by someone on being abducted by aliens, or an essay on the food cultures of the Caribbean, etc. These are just examples off the top of my head to guide you. Please note that you cannot write on the texts and visual material we’ve already done this semester.)=

This essay will require you to do a rhetorical analysis of the text and some research on the topic itself to find credible secondary sources. So do some preliminary research and choose something you want to spend the next two weeks researching on.

Write a 4-6 page analysis essay on the topic you have chosen within the genres we’ve roughly covered this semester through visual and rhetorical analysis of texts. You will be required to cite at least TWO (credible) external sources to support your thesis argument in the final essay. In a way, the final writing assignment is a continuation of the work you’ve done last week with the exploratory process of researching and the annotated bibliography entries. In the final essay, you’ll move from exploration to a thesis-driven argument. Choose the two sources that help your argument the best. Please remember 4-6 pages means at least 4 full pages and no more than 6 pages. I want you all to check in for a couple of things at this stage. Breaking it down, the format of the essay remains the same; it should roughly consist of about one or two paragraphs of introduction with your “strong” thesis clearly stated, then body paragraphs of rhetorical analysis supported by your research and the external sources you are using to bolster your argument, and finally a strong 1-2 paragraphs of conclusion. It’s supposed to be 4-6 pages. Someone asked me this so clarifying it here: the works cited page does not consist of descriptions from annotated bibliography! It should be in MLA format, here’s a link to help with how a works cited page looks like: https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/mla_style/mla_formatting_and_style_guide/mla_sample_works_cited_page.html

Please, pick a topic that you think would match this information and you would enjoy writing about, and let me know what you decide before righting.
