Public Health Question
Description
In this Assignment, you will informally interview two people, one who is a public health professional, and one who does not have a public health background (e.g., friend, family member, etc.). Your interviews MUST be carried out orally (e.g., in person, via telephone/conference call). This provides an opportunity to practice qualitative evaluation skills. Take notes or record your interviews in preparation for analyzing each to consider your interviewees’ understanding of evaluation based on their area of expertise and your own understanding of evaluation

- ask each interviewee the following questions:
- How do you define “evaluation”? (If the person struggles, rephrase to ask, “What comes to mind when I say the word ‘evaluation’?”) After the person answers, let them know that evaluation is “a process that collects information to help you make better decisions” (Renger et al., 2015).
Where do you work?
Have you ever evaluated anything at work?If yes, what did you evaluate? How did you evaluate it? What kind of information did you collect to help make your decision?
If not, is there anything at work you feel could benefit from doing an evaluation? If so, what kind of information would you collect to help make your decision?

Note: It is important to understand that everyone has a different understanding of what evaluation means. The first step in program evaluation is to meet with the potential client, ask them about their definition of evaluation and their needs, and then explain to them what evaluation means, what its different purposes are, and how the evaluation plan can align with their needs. Therefore, clients’ responses are critical to evaluation planning and development.
