- a paper (see technical requirements below) that examines how the culture is portrayed in the film. (Write about the major culture and how the co-cultures are portrayed as they clash with the main culture(s).) You should connect to/address a minimum of three elements from the text in your paper.
- Ethnocentrism, Prejudice, Stereotyping
- Accommodation, Assimilation, Separation Goals
- Dominant vs. Non-Dominant Culture (Co-Cultures)
- Individualistic vs. Collectivistic Cultures
- Uncertainty-Accepting vs. Uncertainty-Rejecting
- On-Time vs. Sometime (M-Time vs. P-Time)
- Additionally, you should consult two academic sources regarding your topic/culture to add to the research you present. If you are working on this paper as a pair, you should have four outside academic sources.
You should be providing a thoughtful and critical analysis of intercultural communication in your paper. You should be examining concepts from the text/articles and connecting them to specific examples from the film. Additionally, it should be well-organized, clearly written, and free from spelling and grammatical errors.
- Create a poster that provides a brief synopsis of the film and some of your ‘cultural findings’. These posters will be shown during the final two days of class in a “poster session”. On your assigned day, you (and your partner) will ‘set up’ your poster and give a brief, informal, 2- 3 minute talk about your movie and your findings to the class.
