I think almost everyone has heard of the Will Smith slap. If not, all you need to know is at the Oscars Will Smith slapped fellow actor Chris Rock for making a joke about Smith’s wife actress Jada Pinkett Smith. After the interaction Rock kept pretty calm and played it off causing some to speculate the slap to be staged. There were people who claimed that Rock had a cheek pad on. However after doing further research the picture that was circulating of Rock’s face and one side being puffy turned out to be photoshopped so the rumor was debunked.

1) I have found research on what happens when bias is not really taken into consideration and that leads to incredible misinformation sometimes. And sometimes bias can be difficult to see. Sometimes bias can come from whoever is funding your investigation for example. I remember writing about the amount of energy servers use and one of the researchers had written about the fact that it is not as bad as people say but even though he did not have any personal bias, his research was funded by amazon one of the leading server providers in the world.

The material is very interesting I think that oftentimes we talk about maybe the way religion is portrayed without really knowing what is actually happening and that leads to a lot of judgment without really any discussion taking place and judgment without discussion is a massive issue in today’s day and age.

I think a lot of what is happening in today’s day and age especially when it comes to religion is related to history. I know for example that the burqa has come under heavy fire from most western cultures and, yet very few of those people talk about the history of those places.

2) What research flaw is the most egregious? I think the research flaw that is the most damaging is to take only one perspective into account too many instances have happened where people will only quote and research things that support their theory and instead of letting the research convince them, they are trying to convince people with their erroneous research that their opinion is correct.

After reading the material on proper writing, the 5 W’s of research, and research flaws, has shown me to read the text to see if the writer has any bias about the topic. Bias within the writer makes the paper slide to one of the side being talked about not having a neutral ground hearing both sides. Sometimes these bias lead to the writing cherry picking what agrees with his/her thought and leaving our critical information that relates to the topic but it might be against what the writer believes so they leave it out. After reading the material that was provided it has shown me a guide to creating a paper that does not take one of the sides being discussed because of the author does not include his/her bias into their paper make the stand neutral.
