TOPIC: DEEPFAKES —- Each application paper you submit should be no longer than four double-spaced pages, using 12-point Times New Roman font and one-inch margins with normal scale, spacing, and kerning. (If you provide a title page and/or a reference list, these will not count toward the four-page maximum.) Regardless of the specific innovation on which you choose to focus, in each of these papers, you are expected to: 1. describe the technology or related concept in full, 2. assess its relative usefulness and any potential limitations for practitioners (either present-day or projected for the future)—i.e., broadly speaking, what can this technology do for advertisers and PR professionals, what can it not do, and what are the challenges or restrictions therein—and 3. consider a past, present, or potential future advertising/public relations situation that has not been covered in our readings, and discuss how the innovation in question could be used to achieve relevant advertising and/or public relations objectives in that scenario. The first two steps in particular will require you to be concise, yet as thorough as possible within the constraints of this assignment. For the third step, much of our course focuses on the potential utility of these emerging technologies, so you should be able to conceive a scenario in which that utility applies. Note that three items progress from general to specific (what the technology is, how it could be useful for advertising/PR, and a specific example of that usefulness in action), so you would be well-advised to systematically craft each of your papers in this fashion, addressing each item of the above list step-by-step.
