Grand Canyon University Mental Health Response
Description
For school-based mental health services and support like RESPOND, the recommendations for actions that I wanted to share with stakeholders is to know the performance of the college/university students because that is the element that gives us information on how well the students are doing and then suddenly became tired and not performing in class anymore and also an indication that may suggest that the student is suffering from mental health issues. I want to stress the importance of creating a school-based program that will look closely at students that need mental health management. The school administration should give an appropriate ratio of mental health professionals/mental health participants per student at least a 1:1 ratio (Whinnery, 2019).
University/colleges should be required to report their ratio of students to the Department of Education and what strategies they are doing to reach and maintain the ratio of at least 700 students per psychologist (Whinnery, 2019). Schools should provide funds to the School Safety Account to support the program.
Develop a rubric that identifies resources for training on practices that support student mental health, school-based prevention, and intervention services (Whinnery, 2019). This will help the school to develop a plan for student mental health and improve their goals in keeping their student’s mental health on track and also increase the accessibility of school-based interventions (Whinnery, 2019).
