Management Question

Description

Assignment 1- Interview Questions:

Video Link:

Interviews are the most commonly used method for evaluating job candidates. Yet, an interview can be conducted in any number of ways.

Because interviews should be job-related, you will develop a structured interview for the job you analyzed consisting of behavioral (or situational) interview questions.

To begin, watch the video below to learn about the benefits of taking a behavior (or situational) approach:

Your Assignment:

Based upon the job analysis you completed for a previous assignment, you will develop a list of 6-8 situational or behavioral interview questions that are intended to elicit information about the job candidates’ qualifications for the job in question. In other words, review your job analysis homework to identify job qualifications, and develop an behavioral/situational interview question for each one.

Format:

At the beginning of your document, you should provide a short description of the job in question. Then present your 6-8 behavioral interview questions. You should also indicate what qualification is linked to each interview question. Finally, you should provide a rating system that the person conducting the interview can use to evaluate candidate responses to the questions.

If you provide a question that is not a behavioral or situational interview question, you will not receive credit.

Assignment #2- Discussion Board 2: Stereotyping

This week’s content is packed with concepts and information that you may “know” somewhat but that you may not have encountered as such in any particular course. The insight that I hope you will gain from this week can make a difference in your effectiveness as a manager, especially any insight or recognition regarding perceptual errors, the attribution process, and particularly stereotyping. For this DB I want you to focus in on stereotyping and how it affects your decisions as a manager. It is so important to understand these barriers so that you won’t make poor decisions stemming from these biases! Read this brief article, located in the Content module for this week, Stereotyping Explained, before answering this question.

As error-prone and imperfect humans, we commit perceptual errors like stereotyping all the time. It is easier to draw from a preconceived notion about a group to which someone belongs (a group like ethnicity, race, age, etc.) sometimes rather than focus in on the INDIVIDUAL behavior….beyond the surface “group”. Think about stereotyping and how easy it is to fall into this “habit”…..if you can, relate a past experience where you KNOW that YOU or someone else engaged in stereotyping in their treatment or decision making. Actually, YOU might have actually suffered yourself from someone else’s stereotyping of you or a family member or a coworker! Explain/discuss and consider the possible negative impact of a management or business decision based on a stereotype. If you don’t have any personal experience with this, there are several examples in Remember the Titans that you could apply here, also! Please discuss and don’t forget to read your classmates’ posts…for your own learning and as response posting for points!
