In this assignment, you will address the use of practice guidelines and standards to evaluate clinical case outcomes. The previous case of Esteban provides the clinical scenario.

Case Scenario: Esteban is a busy professional in his late thirties. Three years ago at his last visit, the doctor recommended he quit smoking and lose weight. According to his doctor, his blood sugar, blood pressure, and cholesterol were a little high and improving his diet would help improve his overall health. He has cut back on his smoking and has also gained a little weight, despite his efforts to lose. He was too busy to return to the clinic for 6 months follow-up labs or return for last year’s health maintenance. He returns to the office today, three years later, for another health maintenance visit.

Guidelines

Part 1: Review to the guidelines or standards of care and practice for Diabetes management applicable to this case.
– Identify quality/safety issue/s from the case and actual or potential negative outcomes associated with issue.
– Refer to the QSEN graduate competency document and review the Knowledge, Skill and Attitude (KSAs) columns for each of the six competencies defined. Then,
1) Identify how at least three competencies that are related to the quality/safety problems you have identified in the number 1 question
2) Explain how you would apply appropriate KSAs under the selected competencies to resolve the issue/s in the case.
3) Use the table provided to document your response.
