Central Texas College The Silent Oppression of Women in Society Reflection Paper
Description
Your reflection/response essay should cover the course material from weeks 9 – 12. Course material refers to all the information provided on the PPT, modules and other media or written docs. You do not need to include footnotes or bibliography, and you should not insert long quotes from the readings in your essay. Instead, paraphrase the author’s ideas and indicate your source by using this format: e.g. (author’s LAST NAME, page# ) => (Dooling, 12) or (Yuan, 32).
Try to avoid making broad, general statements and be more specific. You need to provide a lot evidence (page#) for some of the statements or interpretations of the texts in your essay.
The burden is on you to demonstrate that you have fully absorbed the course material and grasped the discussion topics and the complex ethical issues raised by the readings. The more your essay demonstrates that ability, the better chances of scoring the highest points.
a) Choose your own title that stays within the parameters of the discussion topics from weeks 9-12.
b) Focus on Haug’s main argument she elaborates in her essay “Victims or Culprits? Reflections on Women’s Behavior” and concisely explain her thesis by providing specific points and page references from the text itself . Remember that her main argument is based on the 8 hypothesis about the “structure of women’s oppression.”
c) Then select any two stories from the weeks 9-12 that best illustrate your understanding of Haug’s main argument. In discussing and analyzing the stories, make sure to explain clearly the relevance of Haug’s essay to understanding the “complex ethical issues” raised by the authors (of the stories).
